A Cricketing Christmas by Steph

"Masterful!! Well done!!"
- Jonathan Agnew

'Twas the Knight before Gilchristmas
when all through the shack
Not a creature was stirring, not even Venkat;
The binoculars were hung by the balcony with care,
In hopes that St Marcus soon would be there;
Each child was nestled in their sleeping bag new
While having visions of cover drives played off Agnew;
And mamma in her kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our Alleynes for a long winter's nap;
When out on the square there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see who was the batter.
Away to the balcony I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the Ramprakash.
The night air was chilling, my lungs forced to cough,
The moon shone as radiant as a hat-tricking Gough;
Then, that which to my wondering eyes could only astound:
A meteoric drive, hit down the ground.
Who was this driver, so lively and quick?
A glance through my binoculars confirmed that it was St Trescothick.
